Modifilan began with a humble first harvest in 1997, when the team set out to gather Laminaria kelp from remote island waters. Without the resources for heavy machinery or large-scale trawling, they relied on divers to carefully hand-harvest the kelp — a choice that would come to shape the integrity of the brand.
What began as necessity became a more sustainable way forward. By cutting the kelp by hand rather than dragging from the seabed, the harvest supports natural regrowth, allowing the same areas to replenish year after year. Rooted in respect for the marine environment, Modifilan continues to work with this rare kelp in a way that protects both the source and the future of the harvest.
